Very different but very enjoyable

We spend a week at the Mas with our 5 teenger children and one of their friends. The generosity of the lady, Angela, looking after the Mas has to be mentioned first. She got her husband to drive us to some artisan cheesemaker some 45 minutes away and we had a great hour there making sure we bought plenty of Manchego. She also took the time to teach my wife how to make Valencian paella and even dragged my young son (13) off to their farm to go and herd some lambs with her son. It is a stark and quite unforgiving part of the world and that is part of its charm. My wife really felt that the nearest town, Culla, grew on her and we found some of the oher towns, escpeically Ares, well worth the visit. With peaches and nectarines tasting better than they ever do in England, we really were able to relax. The Mas was very comfortable and the kids loved the pool with the great view. The only drawback was that it appears the truffle season is in spring - perhaps this could be the time to spend another week there.
