The owner's comments

This is a beautiful collection of quintessentially Madeiran stone cottages and outbuildings lovingly restored in local stone and timber and decorated to the highest standards throughout. Nestling on the edge of a "calhau", a boulder type of cliff, all the holiday homes enjoy spectacular views of the sea. 

As you lounge around the 9m pool, surrounded by manicured gardens and banana plants, you will suddenly realise something that will take your breath away - because you are 300m above sea level, you can see the curvature of the earth! This and the other holiday homes have been painstakingly and lovingly restored by Elevterio Gouveia, a builder by profession, and his wife, Eva, a schoolteacher based in Funchal. 

The properties are accessed through electronic security gates (although security is not an issue!) and there is a parking space for each holiday home. The Gouveia family have their own cottage on site and so are always available for advice or help. We would advise that this is not an ideal place for someone who has difficulty in negotiating steps or who has problems with heights! 

But the height of this little complex is what makes it so spectacular.
