The Country House accommodations are comprised of two adjacent buildings:

The Old Convent, sleeps 12:
The former Franciscan convent with original architecture in tact has 3 floors and an adjacent chapel. It sleeps 12 and is comprised of 6 double bedrooms each with private bath (one of which has a jacuzzi), a fully equipped kitchen, dining room with original fireplace, living room, tv room. 

The Old Mill:
The original architecture of the old mill has been
carefully preserved, it is layed out on two floors and sleeps 5. It is comprised of 2 double bedrooms, one of which has an additional single bed and a bathroom with jacuzzi, dining room, living room with television and a fully equipped kitchen.

-Borgo del Papa produces it's own extra vergine olive oil and honey from organic farming. Olive groves and fields of grain are grown on 24 hectares beautiful rolling hills located between Lake Trasimeno and Lake Chiusi.

Borgo del Papa Country House is 12 Km from Castiglione del Lago. It is surrounded by the enchanting Umbrian countryside and runs alongside the nearby Tuscan landscape. Here exquisite colors manifest and change with the seasons:
the green of spring gives way to a golden summer with red poppies and yellow sunflowers. Gently rolling hills sparsed with solitary cypress trees and century old groves of olive trees, dissolve on the banks of Lake Trasimeno and Lake Chiusi. They are surrounded by national parks and land reserves, home to all
the species of native birds providing a breathtaking sight.

Borgo del Papa is located where Tuscany and Umbria meet, in a Franciscan monastery which was once the summer retreat for the Pope. You may visit the 
consecrated chapel which is part of the convent. The Country House is placed atop one of the highest hills of the county of Lake Castiglione and offers a breathtaking view of Lake Trasimeno the surrounding area. 

Umbria's wealth of history and gastronomic tradition is overwhelming. At Borgo del Papa we preserve that tradition with organic farming and produce a private label extra virgin oil of the highest quality and unique in fragrance. 

At quote 355 mt the landscape runs alongside Tuscany. Roads lead through olive groves and grape vineyards. Monte Cetona reigns over the entire valley and extends into a land of extraordinary beauty and untempered nature. Simple

Borgo del Papa is an easy distance from the finest attractions in central Italy; Castiglione della Pescaia on the Tirreanean coast is 2 hours away. San Benedetto del Tronto, on the Adriatic Coast is also 2 hours away. Both Rome and Florence are just and hour away. 

Cortona can be reached in 30 minutes. Lake Chiusi, reknowned for it's etruscan history and museums is less than 10 minutes from our location. Siena is a mere 40 minutes away and Arezzo is 50 minutes. Wine lovers willl not want to miss Montalcino and Montepulciano which can be seen from the Country house's estate, not to mention Pienza, famous for pecorino cheese, which is 40 minutes away. The beautiful Val d'Orcia is a World Heritage sight. Here Assisi, known for it's religious and spiritual history, is just 40 minutes away. 

Perugia is a nearby 30 minute trip from the Country House. 

Borgo del Papa is part of the township of Lake Castiglione which, along with Paciano is widely considered one of the most beautiful Italian villages and are only 10 minutes away. Castiglione del Lago should not be missed for both it's beauty and for the palate. There are numerous grocery stores nearby and many are located in the surrounding villages. 

Umbria is just waiting for you to discover it and while you are there take a swim in our pool, relax and let reality become a distant dream for once. 

There are several day trips within easy reach of Borgo del Papa. 

Cortona, also of Etruscan origin, is a lovely medieval village situated at quote 650 meters and provides an excellent view of Valdichiana and Lake Trasimeno. In the small local fishing ports of Castiglione del Lago, Tuoro, Passignano and San Feliciano you can take a boat to visit two of the three islands in Lake Trasimeno. 

Paciano, another of one of the most beautiful Italian villages. 

Val d'Orcia, a World Heritage Site, renowned for it's landscape of rolling hills and numerous villages which are preserved intact, including: Pienza, Monticchiello, Bagno Vignoni, and San Quirico. 

The wine tasting tour should not be missed by wine enthusiasts. Start in Montepulciano, home of Nobile wine, proceed to Pienza, renowned for pecorino cheese and then go to Montalcino, home to Brunello wine.

From Chiusi

Follow signs for Vaiano, turn right after Vaiano and continue following signs for Poggio del Papa. After 500 meters turn right again in the direction of Borgo del Papa. 


From Castiglione del Lago

Follow signs for Gioella and then for Vaiano, turn left just before the town of Vaiano and continue to follow signs for Poggio del Papa. After 500 meters turn right following the signs for Borgo del Papa.
